Getting the search experience right for candidates can be the difference between a candidate seeing a job that is relevant for them or not. We also have to consider the speed at which the user received the results they are interested in, because quite frankly everyone is used to being able to find what they want quickly. Users in all walks of life are used to searching for products on Amazon or searching on Google and of course, both of these search experiences are sophisticated to present the best options to the users. Both Amazon and Google have a direct incentive to provide a great search experience to their users, this is to keep users using them to buy that next pair of headphones or to search for today’s weather. 1. Allow for spelling mistakes
The best search systems out there allow for spelling mistakes and still present relevant results to the user! So we incorporated this into our job boarding technology.
2. Have a search hierarchy
Display job adverts that are most appropriate first, and continue to show other results which may also be appropriate. For example in the following search process, the first job advert has ‘Javascript’ and ‘Developer’ in the job advert title, whereas the following two have those search terms in the job advert body and are therefore deemed less relevant to the candidate, although still possibly relevant. There are also additional nuances to the way our hierarchy works but this presents the general idea.

Just like you can in Google, candidates can search for exact phrases by putting their search criteria in between speech marks.
